This month’s Artist of the Month is Jeff Gordon!

Jeff Gordon

Jeff has been entertaining music lovers throughout Central New York for over three decades. Beginning in the early 90’s, Jeff fronted the all original band, Free at Last which were semi-finalists for the Yamaha National Songwriters Competition and Jeff received a nomination at the very first SAMMY awards for best rock vocalist.

From that exposure, Jeff then became lead singer for national recording Artist Joe Bonamassa. Tours up and down the east coast opening for blues greats BB King and Buddy Guy, as well as headlining the Ft. Lauderdale Blues Fest in front of 10,000 in attendance was a great experience for a young 20 something learning the ropes from some of the greatest musicians ever.

Upon Jeff’s return to the Syracuse area, he decided to settle down and raise a family with his high school sweetheart, Michele. During these years, Jeff was offered unique opportunities to keep his hand in music including a foray into musical theater which included four highly successful runs as Joseph in “Joseph and the amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” for the Talent Company.

But Jeff’s love of music quickly brought him back to the Central New York music scene with a 10 year stint as the lead singer/rhythm guitarist for one of central New York’s favorite classic rock bands, Kane. After a decade with Kane, several members started what is now the biggest drawing class rock band in Central New York, Hard Promises. Hard Promises are staples on most of the major festival stages in Central New York. Hard Promises is also known for their tribute to the music of Tom Petty. This is now New York State’s largest drawing, and longest running, Tom Petty Tribute and their annual Petty Fest now draws 2,000 to the beautiful Vine Theater at the del Lago Resort every Spring. Hard Promises was recently asked to perform on the nationally syndicated show, “Tribute Wars USA” and will head down to Florida to tape their episode at the end of May. Hard Promises has opened shows for Loverboy, Cheap Trick, Starship, and Brett Michaels and Jeff has been fortunate to perform as a member of Benny Mardones’ Hurricanes and Eddie Money’s backing band. . Hard Promises has also been a big supporter of Music for the Mission, performing at fundraisers and producing videos to encourage donations to this worthy cause.

Jeff’s pull toward creating original music proved too strong to stay away from and he has recently released his first solo album, Local Boy. Jeff hopes that, once the pandemic is behind us, he will be able to return to performing live with Hard Promises and also perform his own music with his own band.

“Helping Music for the Mission, and giving back to those in need in our community is not an obligation we have to fulfill, it is a gift that we are given when we are able to help other human beings. It doesn’t matter what capacity it is in, the gift is there for all who are able. There is no greater feeling than knowing you are helping others when they need help. Music for the Mission does this every day and I will always help them whether it’s through the work of my band, Hard Promises, or through my solo music. If you have ever come to a Hard Promises show, or enjoyed my solo music, please give to Music for the Mission if you are able. Thank you.”

Jeff will donate $5 to the Mission for every online purchase of his new CD, “Local Boy,” during the month of April. So help this “local boy” help our local brothers and sisters in need. Purchase your copies here:
