Board of Directors
Joe Stanley, Founder & President
A native of Syracuse, Joe has called Central New York home his whole life. Joe graduated from Syracuse University College of Law in 1981 and founded Stanley Law, where he devotes most of his time to advocating for those who have experienced serious personal injury.
After witnessing family members experience homelessness and food insecurity, as well as volunteering for the Rescue Mission, Joe founded Music for the Mission in 2009. Through Music for the Mission Joe hopes to provide relief to the homeless and the hungry in the local community, because, as he somberly puts it, “at any moment, you or your neighbor could be experiencing the same hardships. We cannot turn a blind eye to this suffering.”
When he’s not working or volunteering, Joe enjoys running, playing basketball at the Y, and spending time outdoors.
Angela Moonan, Board Member (and Director of Communications & Marketing)
Angela is a mom, business owner, corporate storyteller, marketer, advocate and ambassador for Music for the Mission and those we serve to help meet the basic needs for survival. The world has certainly changed during her twenty-five years in media and marketing. For over a decade she’s worked side by side with Joe Stanley and the Stanley Law Team as the firm has grown and prospered… into being able to create Music for the Mission to do good works throughout New York and Pennsylvania.
A musician herself, Angela’s dedicated to believing that our instrumental job in life is to ensure there’s hope, there’s inspiration, there’s a way to help one more person, and the next, and the next… strive for a more purpose-filled and beautiful life.
Bio in progress.
Nick Shires, Board Member
Nick was born and raised in the Syracuse area. After graduating from Syracuse University, he began working at a regional accounting firm located in downtown Syracuse. His commitment to the accounting profession and the Central New York region have led him to his current role as a tax partner at Dannible & McKee, LLP.
He is bringing that same commitment to helping those in need through his involvement with Music for the Mission. Nick has always been a believer in the power of community involvement, and he is excited about the impact music can have in the betterment of lives in his hometown.
Melissa A. Bassett-Graetz, Executive Director
Originally a Northstar from Cicero, NY, Melissa has a strong connection and love for the Syracuse area.
She earned a B.A. in Music (Percussion) and is currently finishing her M.A. in Arts Leadership Administration in the Janklow Arts Leadership program, both at Syracuse University. She is focusing her studies on how Displacement impacts Culture.
Stepping out of the classroom, Melissa has interned and worked with various arts organizations in the area to gain experience in community engagement and artistic leadership. These experiences have furthered her interests in sharing music and art to the community, how to use these avenues to benefit the lives of those around us, and the ability we have to empower our organizations to do the same.
When Melissa is not studying or working, she enjoys road trips, performing with the Syracuse University Percussion Ensemble, and watching Star Wars and Star Trek with her husband and three amazing cats.
